Schism Results

Played the Schism tourney @War & Pieces yesterday and had a blast!
I played three games, the first against Joey, the store owner with his Darius Cygnar list and the last two against Ian and his Testament of Menoth Protectorate list.

I want to say this now, I could have cleaned up for the survivor medal but I didn't even think about it, I went in to have fun. At the end of the 2nd game I realized I had a shot at it, but because my first game went so long and my second game I sacrificed my Earthborn I failed :(

Here's what I should have done:
1.) I should have decided on winning that medal prior to the tournament.
2.) Run all my lists beast heavy. at 750, I can run Borka with 4 heavies and 3 lights for 18 VPs. At that point it's all about sacrificing your Warlock. Run him up to your opponent's warcaster and he has two choices. A.) allow you to walk up to his caster and beat him down at full fury and get all the VPs or B.) Kill your lone warlock and you still get the VPs.
3.) In all my games, i needed to sack my warlock. just as above, run him up, screaming and yelling, and collecting VPs.

shoulda-woulda-coulda-but didn't. damn.

I ended up with 16 survivor VPs. The winner of survivor had 22. Not a big margin, had I not sacked my EBDT in game 2 I would have been 3 points closer :)
Im on the lookout for the next one of these. At 750 I should be able to scoop up 18 VPs a game. :)

Oh and for all my hard fighting, I lost all three matches.

Cygnar 1-1

Played Andre and Art tonight. Both playing Cygnar.
Andre is a very new player (only about 4 games under his belt) and I shouldn't count his game, but this is my blog and when I played Ashe I counted that game.

I played:
Faction: Trollblood
Points: 486
Model Count: 17
Victory Points: 17

Borka Kegslayer
> Pyg Keg Carrier
Troll Impaler
Winter Troll
Fell Caller
Trollkin Champions [5]
Trollkin Champions [5]
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew [2]

I think Andre played:
Faction: Cygnar
Points: 500
Model Count: 25
Victory Points: 19

Commander Adept Sebastian Nemo
> Squire
> Lancer
> Centurion
Gun Mage Captain Adept
Journeyman Warcaster
Field Mechaniks [6] (2 added)
Sword Knights [10] (4 added)
> Sword Knight Officer & Standard Bearer [2]
Rupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord

I played a good game. Stationary + Free Strikes (Mosh Pit) will mow down almost anything short of a Centurion. Effing 24 armor jeebus. Anyways, We played No Man's Land. It came down to him having to run Nemo away and I would have just pursued with my unit of Champs that hadn't lost a single model. He did some good damage with Nemo's chain lightning the first shot, he should have just poked me with the jacks for their base attacks and just arc lightning all over the place. He'll get better, I see him being a good opponent in tourneys.

2nd Game was against Art. I told him we didn't have much time so he would have to shut up and play a quick 350 Mangled Metal game. (Art, 350 Mangled metal, don't fight me for 500 or 750 when it's 10PM and the store can/will and has closed before 10PM)

I played the Grim List I posted the other day. Art played the following:

Faction: Cygnar
Points: 351
Model Count: 4
Victory Points: 11

Captain Jeremiah Kraye
> Hunter
> Hunter
> Hunter

Yea, I know it's a point over. I wasn't about to whine. I wanted another game and I wanted to play Art without his stoopid Haley lists. Unfortunately Earthborn Dire Trolls, Impalers and Axers on their large bases don't do well against armor piercing. So I got shot to shit. The one round I had a clear shot at Kraye I muffed the roll and got 3 damage. beter luck next time Ray

First Tournament

Played in my first tournament today. Not my best showing.

Game 1 vs. Cygnar-Haley
I knew I would be facing Haley this tourney at least once and I knew I had a very hard time facing her last time. I built my Grim list to face her.
Well, turn 2 I took my shot, I found a line of sight and the range and took a shot at her. POW! 15 damage. Unfortunately she was sitting on one focus...she ran back, hid and healed a bit. He left her open once more and Grim took another crack at her, this time Grim was only able to eke out 3 points of damage and Grim was out in the open. Next turn Grim was dead :( oops.

Lesson taught (not necessarily learned): Don't leave your caster out unless you're 100% sure you'll make your shot.

Game 2 vs. Skorne-Makeda
Played my Grim list again. The scenario was to control slices of the board. I tried a couple shots at Makeda but couldn't make it happen. The last time (again) Grim's dick was hanging in the wind.

Lesson taught (not necessaruly learned, again): See above

Game 3 vs. Cygnar-Stryker
Played Borka. A couple bad moves on my part, I didn't leave Borka out in the open this time but I mis-judged charge range and lanes on an assassination attempt on Stryker. At this time both Winter and Dire Troll Mauler were wiped out along with my Longriders and 40% of my champs.

Lesson taught: It's *just* a game. Don't worry so much.

Cygnar 1, Trolls 0

Played 350 points tonight versus Cygnar.

He played:
Captain Victoria Haley
   Centurion
   Thorn
Journeyman Warcaster
Gun Mage Captain Adept
Eiryss, Mage Hunter of Ios

I played my 350 Grim list:
Grim Angus
Earthborn Dire Troll
Troll Axer
Troll Impaler

I made a LOT of mistakes. My poorest game yet. Or perhaps I'm getting better at realizing what makes a well played game?
Mistakes made:
1.) I played a Tooth and Claw list versus a normal 350 list. There were entirely too many targets.
2.) I placed terrain poorly. I placed two pieces of forest terrain right at my deployment edge. This meant I got into it, but I was pretty well locked in that area. Then I had to run out of the forests at half speed due to Haley's Temporal Barrier and got shot to shit.
3.) I played too defensively. I got into the trees and didn't want to move.

On to the next game with more knowledge under my belt.
“All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes.” ~Winston Churchill

if you're keeping track I'm currently 0 Wins 3 Losses with my Trolls
